New Surface Studio 2 revealed by Microsoft

Microsoft has revealed a bunch of new Surface hardware recently, and among the offerings is the Surface Studio 2.

It’s the company’s designed-focused desktop AIO and in many ways is the Microsoft-alternative to Apple’s iMac.

As for what makes this new device noteworthy, Microsoft is christening it as the most powerful Surface product they’ve made to date.

More specifically the Surface Studio 2 features a 50 percent faster GPU, with a choice of Nvidia GTX 1060 (6GB) or Nvidia GTX 1070 (8GB). This is paired with a 7th Gen Intel i7 (7820HQ) processor and 16GB or 32GB DDR4 RAM depending on the setup you opt for.

In terms of memory a 1TB or 2TB SSD is available, along with other bells and whistles like four USB 3.0 ports, a single USB Type-C slot and 1 Gigabit ethernet port. Added to this is a 5MP front facing camera that supports 1080p FullHD video and Dolby Stereo 2.1 speakers.

With regards to the most important aspect, the display, that too has been enhanced compared to the previous generation. It’s a 28″ PixelSense display (4 500 X 3 000) with 10 point multi-touch functionality and compatibility with Microsoft’s Surface Dial design tool.

Microsoft says the new display is 38 percent brighter, with 22 percent higher contrast, as well as sporting 4 096 levels of pressure to assist while designing on it.

Like many of the devices Microsoft revealed this week, the Surface Studio 2 is up pre-order in the States and ships on 16th October for $3 499 (~R50 214).
