LG officially reveals five camera-sporting V40 ThinQ flagship phone

Last week LG teased a glimpse of its upcoming V40 ThinQ flagship phone, with a full reveal scheduled for 3rd October.

True to their word the South Korean manufacturer did indeed offer up a proper unveiling for the device, with the LG V40 ThinQ sporting five cameras as its big talking point.

Three of the five cameras are found on the rear, with a 16MP 107 degree super wide-angle option, a standard f/1.5 12MP lens and telephoto f/2.4 12MP variant.

Up front a pair of cameras are housed in the screen notch, with one being an 8MP f/1.8 lens and other a 5MP 90 degree wide-angle offering.

As such, the V40 ThinQ comes well-appointed on the camera front, although we have not had the chance to test it out against the likes of the Huawei P20 Pro, which is the other triple rear lens smartphone on the market at the moment.

Looking at the rest of the V40 ThinQ, a 6.4″ OLED display is up front with a 19.5:9 screen ratio and 3 120 X 1 440 resolution. Internally an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset is running things, with 6GB of RAM on offer too.

LG has also made a 64GB and 128GB onboard storage models available, but it remains to be seen if both versions will be landing locally.

The V40 ThinQ comes with other standard flagship fare, such as an IP68 rating, 3 300 mAh battery, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and Android 8.1 (Oreo) as the go-to OS out of the box.

Added to this is LG’s AI features, but they’re quite similar to what was seen on the G7 ThinQ, so much of the focus is on photography and image recognition.

No word yet on when the LG V40 ThinQ will arrive on our shores, or indeed for how much, but LG Mobile South Africa should be forthcoming with that information in the coming days.
