Intel christens 9th Gen Core i9-9900K world’s best gaming processor

Intel kicked off this week by announcing a number of new chips for desktop devices, whether that be for content creation, premium business offerings or high-powered gaming.

It’s the latter that seems to be getting most of the attention, with Intel naming its new 9th Gen Core i9-9900K processor as the world’s best when it comes to gaming.

As for how Intel can make such a claim, they compared their new i9-9900K chip with the likes of the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX and Ryzen Threadripper 2950X, as well as their own Intel Core i9-9980XE Extreme Edition, i9-9900X X-series; 8th Gen i7-8700K and i7-8086K.

More specifically they compared each of the processors when it came to in-game benchmarking or the highest median FPS when benchmarks weren’t available.

Intel found that the i9-9900K outperformed the other CPUs on the majority of the 19 games they were tested on, which included the likes of Middle-Earth: Shadow of War and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

The latest generation of i9-9900K is also said to deliver a 19 percent better overall system performance, and 40 percent greater when compared to a three-year old PC.

When it comes to the capabilities of the i9-9900K, Intel says it yields a base clock speed of 3.6GHz which can be turbo boosted to 5.0GHz. It also features eight cores and 16 threads and a 16MB Intel smart cache and capacity for up to 40 PCIe lanes. Added to this is Intel Optane Memory and two-channel DDR4 2666 support.

The Intel 9th Gen Core i9-9900K is set to go on sale in the States for a recommended $488 (~R7 268) on 4th November.

As for local availability, no date is mentioned yet by Intel, but retailers like Evetech already have it listed for R10 499 (discounted price) and say it is “Coming Soon.”
