Last night’s Made by Google event attracted very little fanfare, primarily because the main attraction devices have been leaked an innumerable amount of times over the past few months.

While most of the leaks appeared to be spot on, there is still some merit at looking at the new Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL in full, now that they’ve been officially unveiled.

Taking a page out of Apple’s playbook, Google has named the Pixel 3 lineup as its most powerful smartphone to date.

What makes them so powerful?

Well each features an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and Adreno 630 GPU, with 4GB RAM and a choice of 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. In that respect though, the Pixel 3 and 3 XL are much like the other Android flagship phones of 2018.

In terms of other notable specifications, the displays on offer are a 5.5″ FullHD+ option for the Pixel 3 and 6.3″ OHD+ variant for the Pixel 3 XL. The latter of which boasts a rather large screen notch.

This is to house the dual front facing cameras, with an 8MP wide-angle and normal field-of-view lens featuring. As for the primary camera, it’s a 12MP dual-pixel that supports Google Lens and can record 4K video at 30fps.

And that’s about it really.

Sadly the Pixel 3 and 3 XL continue the tradition of Google hardware not being available locally. If you’re in the US, however, you can pre-order both devices now with the Pixel 3 costing $799 (~R11 641) and Pixel 3 XL going for $899 (~R13 098).

Both devices will be shipping in the States on 18th October.
