Bastion is the first (kind of disappointing) Overwatch LEGO set

In May of this year we learned that Overwatch and LEGO were partnering up to make sets based on the popular game, and now we finally have a look at the first one to be revealed.

75987: Omnic Bastion, as you may have guessed from the name, features everyone’s favourite / least favourite damage hero in something other than the default skin.

This orange Omnic Crisis version of Bastion is 182 pieces and sells for $25 (~R367) which is rather high for what you’re getting here.

This is a simple enough brick build of the character that, as far as we know, does not transform into the turret or tank modes but does come with a small representation of Ganymede.

The model stands 12 centimetres tall and is actually available for purchase right now with two caveats. Firstly, you can’t go to your local LEGO store and pick it up, as it is exclusive to Blizzard. As such you can only buy it on their online store right now, or at BlizzCon in November.

Secondly, the listing for the set on that store states that this is “only available in limited quantities”, so if you don’t put your money down now you may miss your chance of owning one.

Before you spend your money, however, it must be noted that you can build this without buying the set. As far as we can tell there are no new or exclusive pieces here. Instructions for LEGO sets also wind up online (LEGO actually makes almost all of them available officially) so it will just be a matter of tracking down the pieces on a marketplace like BrickLink.

The only thing you will be missing, aside from the box and instruction book, will be the detailing on the shoulders and “Blizzard exclusive” plaque on the base. Going off of past experience these appear to be stickers and not the more desirable prints, so these aren’t a big loss if you’re willing to go without or simply print them onto paper at home.

Honestly this first set for such a hype theme is a bit disappointing. We know the designers were hamstrung here because it appears that they were trying to keep this set small to be in scale with minifigures, but it still feels a bit boring.

The lack of sentry and tank modes could be forgiven if the robot mode can be taken apart and rebuilt, but that doesn’t look like an option here.

We really hope future sets can impress us as the fan creations from the past few years have set such a high standard.
