Dual SIM Huawei Mate 20 Pro devices on the cards for South Africa

After several weeks of build up the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is now a reality with the Chinese company debuting it in London earlier this week. Along with the global reveal, we’ve also received some local information about the device, and more specifically the availability of dual SIM devices.

While Huawei Mobile South Africa’s execs did not confirm which of the local operators would be carrying the dual SIM version of the Mate 20 Pro, they did mention that devices sporting the functionality would be available in the country.

As such, when pre-orders open up locally for the Mate 20 Pro on 24th October, it should be important to note whether the operator you’re getting the phone from is carrying the dual SIM version.

With dual SIM devices a handy way of dealing with the steep costs of data in South Africa, having one SIM to take care of one’s number and calls, and another to handle data makes a lot of sense.

At this stage Huawei Mobile South Africa tells us that all of the major networks are being spoken to in order to ensure that dual SIM devices are available across the board.

In our experience though, given some operator’s proclivity to only stock single SIM models, there could be a handful of operators willing to carry the dual SIM version.

Along with the dual SIM Mate 20 Pro availability, Huawei Mobile SA also informed us that the 256GB Nano Memory Card revealed this week will also be arriving in the country.

This storage device works the same as a microSD version, but comes in a smaller form factor. The reason it features on the Mate 20 Pro is down to the design of the SIM tray, which is smaller than the ones you may be familiar with.
