Uber begins rollout of Security Toolkit for riders and drivers

This week Uber has launched a Safety Toolkit in 38 countries including South Africa.

The toolkit introduces a number of features that are designed to make the Uber community safer.

The trouble is that the toolkit is being introduced in a phased rollout so not all riders, drivers and delivery partners will have access to the it right now.

That having been said, it introduces the following features for people to make use of.

An emergency button has been integrated into the Uber app so that drivers, riders and delivery partners can contact private emergency services or security without needing to go through a third party.

Riders will also soon be able to select five friends or family members to share their trip details with using just a single tap.

Uber will also introduce speed alerts as a way to remind drivers and delivery partners to adhere to posted speed limits.

Uber users whether they be driving or riding will also spot a new feature in the app itself called the Safety Centre. Here, users can find information on existing safety tools that Uber offers.

“With more than 15 million trips on the Uber app every day, there is nothing more important than the safety of riders, drivers and couriers. Over the last year we’ve been working to develop innovative products that increase transparency, accountability and peace of mind for all users. The rollout of our new Safety Toolkit features across Europe, Middle East and Africa is the next step in making sure that we’re helping everyone stay safe and connected, wherever you might be,” Uber’s global head of safety product, Sachin Kansal, said.
