Release of Audi e-tron SUV delayed for a month or longer

When the Audi e-tron SUV was revealed last month, the German carmaker proclaimed that is was “electric”.

As it turns out, Audi is going to have a little while longer before it can much such statements, with the release of the company’s flagship electric vehicle now delayed.

According to Reuters, Audi needs to get regulatory approval over a software update, following a small bug that was found on the e-tron SUV’s system.

“Audi’s e-tron midsize SUV faced delay because the carmaker needs new regulatory clearance for a piece of software that was modified during the development process,” an Audi spokesperson told Reuters.

The software delay will cost the company roughly four weeks, but reports by German newspaper Bild am Sonntag suggests negotiations with South Korean battery supplier LG Chem could push delivery of the Audi e-tron SUV out several months longer.

As such, there could still be enough time for South African drivers to get their hands on the Audi e-tron SUV around the same time as their European counterparts, but no local release for the EV has been mentioned yet.

If Audi is indeed serious about being electric, and feature an entire fleet of EVs by 2030, they need to tighten up all these delays.
