2019 Jaguar I-PACE has estimated driving range of 376 kilometres

When it comes to the world of electric vehicles (EVs), only one number matters at the moment – the driving range.

This brings us to the Jaguar I-PACE, with the all-electric SUV recently being tested out by the EPA for its estimated driving range.

According to the agency, the Jaguar I-PACE can muster 376 kilometres from its 90kWh battery pack, which is a respectable number.

If driver’s are looking for the best value for money in terms of driving range though, the I-PACE is not the first choice right now, with other SUV-styled EVs capable of yielding more kilometres from a single charge.

As such, it’s the Tesla Model X that’s leading the way in this EV segment, with the Model X 75D just tipping the I-PACE with an estimated range of 381 kilometres.

While the I-PACE is not the class leader in terms of driving range, it still has an impressive 0-100 km/h time of roughly 4.5 seconds.

More crucially though, the 2019 I-PACE has a better chance of being available locally than any Tesla model, with Jaguar having a strong presence in South Africa, and Elon Musk’s company yet to fulfil its promise from a couple of years ago to bring the Model 2 to SA.

Whether you favour the Jaguar I-PACE or one of Tesla’s cars, the next few years should prove intriguing for any would-be EV owners, as all-electric cars become more commonplace here in South Africa.
