Apple gives new Mac Mini a significant boost in performance

We knew that Apple would be debuting a new MacBook Air at its keynote event in Brooklyn, New York earlier today, but the company was able to surprise us with the announcement of a new Mac Mini as well.

The pocket PC has also received upgrades in several significant areas, which could make a more tempting offer when it lands locally.

What are those improvements?

Well like the MacBook Air, the new Mac Mini’s body is designed from 100 percent recycled aluminium.

Internally the Mac Mini will come with a choice of either four or six cores, as well as a RAM configuration of up to 64GB, with all-flash storage thrown into the mix. According to Apple, this new Mac Mini boasts five times the performance of the previous generation offering, making it the company’s most powerful Mac Mini to date.

Other features include a new T2 security chip, three thunderbolt ports, two USB Type-A ports, an HDMI-video slot and a 10 Gigabit ethernet option.

As for the aforementioned flash storage, Apple will make up to 2TB SSD models available, which too are said to be four times faster than before. It will also ship with Apple’s latest macOS – Mojave.

Like most of the devices shown today the Mac Mini is available for pre-order now in the US, with the base model starting at $799 (R11 650).
