The Lenovo Z5 Pro is a slider phone with an all-screen display

A couple of months ago, Lenovo duped us all by teasing a true all-screen phone and then debuting one with a notch in the form of the Z5.

The company may have cracked the all-screen conundrum though with its latest offering – the Z5 Pro.

This new device does indeed feature an all-screen design sans notch, but there’s one caveat – it’s a slider. The phone does not slide all the way up and down though, like the feature phones of yesteryear, but rather only shifts up a small fraction to reveal some front facing cameras.

We we’re initially hesitant about the design when hearing about it, but seeing in renders, it doesn’t look that bad, and may provide a possible solution for other phone makers moving forward.

With the screen notch a necessary evil when trying to go for a true edge-to-edge bezel-less smartphone display, it still remains to be seen who can find a way of moving the front-facing cameras elsewhere.

As for the rest of the Lenovo Z5 Pro, the device is specced in line with a mid-range offering. Namely there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset internally, as well as 6GB RAM and a 3 350mAh battery and in-display fingerprint sensor.

Sticking with the display it’s 6.39″ Amoled screen (2 340 X 1 080). When slid open the Z5 Pro reveals a 16MP and 8MP (infrared) lens option. On the rear a 24MP and 16MP setup is found.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro is up for pre-order in its native China for 1 998 yuan (~R4 195), but it remains unclear which regions it will be heading to.

For now it certainly is an interesting form factor that others could replicate in future.
