As we head towards the end of the year, things start to slow down – but not at Showmax, which is offering up five new shows for you to watch exclusively on their platform.
See below for trailers of all the new content and get a taste of what you could be watching.
Future Man is where you should be pointed if you’re looking for some comical sci-fi action. Josh Hutcherson (of The Hunger Games fame) must team up with time travellers Derek Wilson and Eliza Coupe (from that season of Scrubs that we don’t talk about) to save humanity.
While that may sound a bit grim, the humour here comes from the same people who created fan favourite movie This Is the End. It’s also a good option for those who aren’t getting enough laughs out of the latest Doctor Who (which also comes first and only to Showmax).
If the ending of How I Met Your Mother left you a bit disappointed, give Ted Mosby actor Josh Radnor a second chance in something more serious. Rise sees Radnor’s character take up the mantle of being a drama teacher in a high school with some troubled kids.
Sticking with drama and moving into NSFW territory, The Girlfriend Experience follows the character of actress Riley Keough (you may have seen her in Mad Max: Fury Road) as she balances her two lives: one as a law student and another as an escort. Keep all of that in mind before hitting play on the trailer above.
Our third and final drama in this roundup, The Last Post follows the British families living on a military outpost in Yemen against the backdrop of the Swinging 60s. If you like your drama with an historical or military flavour, this series, which was shot in SA, will be just to your taste.
Vikings is undoubtedly the most popular show on this list, the one that your friends, family, neighbours and strangers have suggested that you watch. Like The Girlfriend Experience, this is a show you may need to watch after the kids have gone to bed, as it’s rather graphic.
If you’re new to the show, no problem – every single episode, from Season 1 through to 5, is available to binge on Showmax. The latest episodes from Season 5 land on Showmax every Friday, express from the US, from 30th November.
