htxt.africast – The odd hardware special

The africast is back this week with a special episode focused on a bunch of miscellaneous hardware, toys and tools.

First up is the piece of tech we used to record this very podcast – a 128 GB Transcend microSD card. We also use this opportunity to speak about microSDs in general, but this unit from Transcend is fantastic and is a great choice for your storage needs.

Next up is something that we don’t often look at but made us wish we did in the Nerf Rival Kronos XVIII-500. This toy gun is deceptively large and powerful from the pictures and videos we saw before taking out of the box, and it blew away out expectations after using Nerf knockoffs in the past. It’s a solid contender for gifts come the festive season.

Back to the world of tech we have an accessory for your phone and GoPro in the Joby GorillaPod Mobile Rig from Singer Photographic that knocked it out of the park in our tests. From helping to create timelapses in Cape Town to taking videos of storms and more, this versatile piece of kit is one we’re going to be reaching for in the future as we continue to produce content with our mobile devices.

The penultimate piece is the Synology DS918+ NAS which took as a while to get working but has been a blast so far for those larger storage needs that a microSD card just won’t work for.

Finally we have the most bizarre-looking of the bunch in the Logitech MX Vertical which, as the name may have hinted to, is a vertical mouse. With a 57 degree tilt this mouse is designed for those with repetitive stress injuries and other problems that come from working long hours at the PC like most of us do.
