Samsung’s Foldable Phone could debut in March 2019 and cost $1700

It’s been less than a week since Samsung officially teased their new foldable phone sporting the Infinity Flex Display technology, with the specifics of the device still unknown for now.

That hasn’t changed much, but there are a few new crumbs of information about the device thanks to a report from South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency.

The website’s sources claim that Samsung will be debuting quite a few devices in March 2019, which will more than likely be at their press conference for MWC next year. The devices in question will be a few different iterations of the Galaxy S10, as well as the Galaxy F foldable phone, although it remains to be seen if Samsung will indeed name the offerings like that.

While a new Galaxy S flagship always grabs headlines, all eyes will be on the Galaxy F.

We don’t know what the phone will look like, apart from being just over 7″ in tablet form and a little under 5″ in the folded cover mode.

The Yonhap report has also revealed potential pricing for the Galaxy F and if true is sure to trigger a few spit takes. They say the device could retail for $1 770 (~R25 476), and if you factor in other associated costs for new phones, the Galaxy F could easily cross in the R30k bracket.

Seeing as only LG could potentially launch a foldable phone in 2019, and make it available in South Africa, it looks like those interested in the Galaxy F will have to pay a premium indeed.

We just hope that Samsung bakes in more features that leverage the foldable design.

Samsung is also said to have lofty ambitions in terms of sales for the Galaxy F with head of mobile DJ Koh noting that the company plans to sell a million devices with flexible displays in 2019.

Whether it can reach that goal will depend on how it prices these devices.
