With the festive season on the horizon, not to mention a scorcher of a summer on the cards for South Africa, having a great portable speaker on hand is great while outdoors or travelling. They also offer a far better audio experience than one can get from a smartphone, not to mention being kinder on your phone’s battery.

JBL – Go 2

This portable speaker comes in a variety of different colours including grey, red, champagne and green. It is ideal for outdoors such as picnics and beach days because of its waterproof design. It has a rechargeable battery with up to five hours of playtime. The JBL Go 2 features a noise cancelling speakerphone function to take or make calls from your phone.

This portable speaker changes colour when you touch it and should brighten things up when you’re using it at night. It has six different colours on offer when lit up: red, orange, blue, green, pink and purple.

It has a microSD card slot, AUX and supports up to five hours music playback along with featuring  touch controls. It retails from R259 to R299 depending on the retailer, Takealot and Game.

Sony SRS-XB10

This Sony portable speaker comes in two colours – blue and black. The SRS-XB10 is also small and lightweight making it easy to carry around on those long summer days.

Added to this is an operating range of up to 10 metres. This speaker is also water-resistant and has Bluetooth 4.2 and it uses micro USB to charge. It can be used for up to 16 hours, has a rechargeable li-ion battery onboard. It retails for R899 at Game and Incredible Connection.
