The new PS4 patch for Fallout 76 is almost as big as the game

Over the past few days you’ve more than likely been exploring the barren wasteland that is Fallout 76.

The latest title in the franchise from Bethesda has undergone a relatively error free launch to date, but there were still some issues that gamers experienced during the B.E.T.A that debuted a couple of weeks ago.

It was PC gamers in particular that were affected, with an infinite re-download loop naturally inhibiting their ability to try out the game prior to its proper launch.

In order to address that specific issue, as well as a few smaller ones, Bethesda has released a patch for Fallout 76.

For those playing on Xbox One and PC, the patch is about 15GB in size, which is par for the course when it comes to the first patch of a game as big as this one.

Curiously for PS4 gamers, however, the patch is far larger, coming in at a whopping 47GB. To give you an idea of how big that is, the game itself was a 53GB install on PS4.

It begs the question as to why it’s so large compared to other versions of the game, as well as what this patch contains that may be different to the Xbox and PC variants, but Bethesda has not noted what makes the PS4 one so large.

As such, you may want to hold off on downloading the patch until the beginning of next month, lest you unexpectedly hit your ISP’s fair usage cap.

With Red Dead Redemption 2’s install a little over 100GB on the PS4, it’s getting harder to justify going for the digital version of titles when they make such on a dent on your data cap.

If you haven’t played the game yet, or are waiting to see what early impressions are like, give our Fallout 76 diary a read here.
