Honor 8X lands in South Africa on 26th November and costs R5 499

Last night Honor (which falls under the Huawei Mobile banner) revealed their latest offering for the South African market – the Honor 8X.

This latest device also coincides with a “relaunch” of sorts for the brand locally, with it being introduced to the public earlier in the year, but remaining relatively quiet since then.

Shifting focus back to the smartphone, the Honor 8X is the latest in a batch of new mid-range devices that have entered the country of late, which should make it interesting to see how it performs against the likes of the new Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A9 from Samsung, not to mention the Huawei Mate 20 Lite.

In terms of features on the Honor 8X, it sports a 6.5″ Full View display up front, with industry standard screen notch. Added to this is a dual camera (20MP and 2MP) setup on the rear which employs an AI system for scene and object detection.

Internally the Honor 8X opts for an octa-core Kirin 710 processor, 4 GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage, with a microSD slot good for up to 400GB.

All of this will cost a recommended R5 499, with the Honor 8X available to purchase on 26th November. It will also come in three colour options – blue, black and red.

Honor also describes itself as an “e-brand”, which means consumers will be able to primarily purchase their phones via online retailers, but they do say that there will be some sort of physical presence too.

For now the Honor 8X will serve as the company’s hero brand for SA, but we should be seeing more models entering the market in coming months.
