See the Xbox Adaptive Controller working on the Nintendo Switch

About six months ago Xbox unveiled the Adaptive Controller, giving those with limited mobility more options to play games. And now, thanks to YouTube channel My Mate VINCE, it’s been shown to work on the Nintendo Switch too.

This will not be a surprise to most, especially those like us who have been subscribed to this channel for a while, but the way this was accomplished was thanks to the slew of third party adapters that have popped up since the Switch launched.

The main component here is the Mayflash Magic-NS Wireless Controller Adapter. This piece of kit has been around for a while and has helped to get almost any input device running on Nintendo’s new hardware.

The Adaptive Controller is simply plugged in through the Mayflash adapter and the included USB Type-C cable, and it works. Kinda.

Because the Adaptive Controller is designed as a base to connect other input devices into (because not every mobility problem is the same person to person), this setup requires more hardware.

At this point anything can be connected as long as it works over a 3.5mm audio jack. Yes, the Adaptive Controller accepts devices for other controller inputs over this port designed for expensive add-ons. This can be worked around (as is briefly described in the video) but this must be kept in mind before anyone attempts to replicate this.

Don’t be put off by the almost 20-minute run time here. This video isn’t just a showcase but also a bit of a tutorial and demonstration of how this was made to work.
