Rastakhan’s reveal season is underway

Digital card game fans are currently experiencing something akin to Christmas.

With Valve’s Artifact launching later this month, Magic: The Gathering Arena’s beta test gaining steam and a forthcoming expansion for Hearthstone, there is ample selection of digital card games for fans of the genre.

Today we’ll be looking at the last game in that list – Hearthstone.

Rastakhan’s Rumble – the final expansion in the Year of the Raven – lands on 4th December and card reveals have been dripping in slowly.

The expansion introduces a new keyword in Overkill, which grants a bonus if additional damage is dealt while killing a minion. For instance if attacking with the new, Ironhide Direhorn it will summon a 5/5 Ironhide Run so long as it kills say a 1/1 Silver Hand Recruit.

Last night we received a flurry of card reveals as senior Hearthstone designer Peter Whalen and Hearthstone streamer RegisKillbin hosted a card reveal live stream.

The stream revealed 14 cards including the Loa and/or Champions (which will be represented as Legendary cards in each class) of Warlock, Shaman and Mage.

Mage is getting a positively disgusting card in Jan’alai, the Dragonhawk which can summon Ragnaros the Firelord provided the player has dealt eight damage with their hero power.

Other highlights from the stream include Waterboy, a two-mana 2/1 minion with the Battlecry – Your next Hero Power this turn costs (0), which is a nice pairing for the new Mage cards revealed.

Dat card? No, Discard

Terrible pun aside, Blizzard and Team 5 appear to be testing the waters of Discard Warlock once more.

Reckless Diretroll, Shriek, Soulwarden and High Priestess Jeklik all boast a Discard mechanic that we think might actually be viable.

Of course whether or not these cards will actually be viable in a Discard Warlock archetype remains to be seen but we are hopeful.

You can watch the first reveal stream in full down below and you can find a full list of revealed cards (updated nightly) over on the r/Hearthstone sub-Reddit.
