South Africans fed up as we prepare for fifth day of load shedding

Last week Eskom reintroduced load shedding due to a number of power generating units being down and coal shortages.

The festivities continued into the weekend with Stage 2 load shedding being declared on both Saturday and Sunday. Now South Africans should brace themselves for a fifth consecutive day of uncertain electricity supply.

Load shedding Stage 2 will begin at 09:00 today, 3rd December.

“With a number of power generating units still out of service due to breakdowns, the prognosis for today is that Eskom will be forced to implement stage 2 loadshedding from 09:00 to 22:00 again,” Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said on Twitter.

South Africans are noticeably upset with the fact that load shedding is a facet of their lives again with many taking to Twitter to voice their frustrations.

Load shedding Stage 2 calls for 2 000MW of power to be shed from the national grid in a bid to keep it from total collapse. Those in areas that are not experiencing load shedding should turn off non-essential appliances and things such as the geyser to conserve electricity.

To find your load shedding schedule contact your local municipality or, alternatively, if you receive your electricity bill directly from Eskom visit this handy website.

As an aside, for those wondering why we use images of cats as headers for these stories it’s because load shedding sucks and we feel that a picture of a cat softens the blow of hearing that the lights might go out as you read this.
