Rastakhan’s Rumble: What 81 card packs will get you

Last night Blizzard rolled out the final expansion for the year of the Raven, Rastakhan’s Rumble.

While we were planning to open packs at 8PM when the expansion went live we were forced to wait for an hour and a half by Eskom as load shedding was in effect.

When the lights came back on however we dived straight into opening packs and we got rather lucky. While Legendary card pulls were few and far between, we did manage to open a pack containing three Epic quality cards.

In total we had 81 packs to open. Blizzard was kind enough to send us 50 packs, we received six packs when logging in last night and we purchased an additional 25 packs with gold we had saved up.

After opening all of the packs we received 1 890 arcane dust from extra cards.

We’ve showcased which cards we’re still missing from the set after opening 81 packs, below.

Druid

Sadly we pulled no Druid Legendary cards and we missed out on Treespeaker.

Hunter

As with Druid we pulled no Hunter legendaries but we are toying with the idea of crafting Zul’jin because we’re suckers for Hero cards.

Mage

While we don’t play much Mage we were hoping to pull Jan’alai, the Dragonhawk because summoning Ragnaros the Firelord in a Standard game sounds like fun.

Paladin

The lack of Legendaries continues with Paladin. That having been said we’re happy we have two Spirit of the Tiger cards and the new spell A New Challenger…

Priest

As Priest mains we were surprisingly less upset that we didn’t pull any Legendary cards for the class than we expected. We are pleased that we have at least one Surrender to Madness and we’re looking forward to building a mighty Mad Keleseth deck with Priest.

Rogue

Looking at it now, our luck with Legendary pulls was rather awful for this expansion. That trend continues with Rogue. In truth the cards we were looking to pull for Rogue were mostly in the Neutral category because Pirate Rogue is looking to be a thing. As such we’re rather pleased to have pulled a gold Cannon Barrage.

Shaman

Finally, a Legendary. Coupled with new cards like Big Bad Voodoo, Zentimo might make for a decent inclusion in decks. If we’re being 100 percent honest though we swore off Shaman years ago and not even Shudderwock could lure us back to Thrall.

Warlock

What’s this? Another Legendary? And one we wanted? High Priestess Jeklik piqued our interest because we really love the idea of Discard Warlock. Will this card and the other Discard cards help make the archetype viable? We’ll have to wait and see.

Warrior

Trust us to get all the Legendary cards for Warrior, a class we hardly play. We are toying with the idea of crafting Emberscale Drake because like Brian Kibler, we love dragons.

Neutral

As for Neutral cards we feel like we pulled a decent amount of cards that vary in rarity but the lack of Legendary cards really is noticeable here.

While we’re not disappointed with the cards we pulled it is getting tougher to justify spending what we spend on Hearthstone.

We will be purchasing more packs now that the expansion has been released and we’re hoping that another 80 packs will give us the cards and dust we need to round out our collection.

Getting 50 packs from Blizzard does help, make no mistake. However, had we purchased that pre-order with our own money and were now faced with the prospect of shoveling even more money into the game we’d be rather upset.

For players who can’t afford many packs, we highly recommend crafting a copy of Whizbang the Wonderful from the Boomsday Project. The card gives you a random deck from the deck recipes created by Blizzard. The decks are okay for the early stages of release and help give you an idea of what cards are good and which are complete trash.

If you have the dust we recommend crafting it golden because then every card in your deck will be golden and that in itself can be rather intimidating.
