Uber South Africa has announced that riders will pay more per kilometre as of today.
The increase is rather small at five percent in some areas and Uber says that the increase in prices comes on the back of in-depth earnings reviews.
The review was conducted to ensure that the app remains a reliable economic opportunity for drivers while still being affordable for riders.
From what we can see the price increases are only for UberX and UberXL services, UberBlack pricing appears to remain unchanged at time of writing.
The new pricing per kilometre follows below.
UberX price increases as of 7th December 2018
Region | Price per km before | Price per km now |
Johannesburg & Pretoria | R7.50 | R8 |
Cape Town | R7 | R7.50 |
Durban | R7 | R7.50 |
Port Elizabeth | R7 | R7.50 |
UberXL price increases as of 7th December 2018
Region | Price per km before | Price per km now |
Cape Town | R7 | R7.50 |
Durban | R7 | R7.50 |
The ride sharing firm says that these increases mean it can further invest in making the Uber platform better. For driver partners the increases mean more money for them to take home at the end of the day.
While it is a small increase we recommend checking how much these increases affect your trips if you are a regular user of the service.
