A Futurama 3D print for the holidays: Chanukah Zombie’s TIE Fighter

As we get closer to the end of the year, expect to see more maker projects focused on Christmas, but today we have a 3D print from Futurama that is Chanukah-themed instead.

This is the TIE Fighter piloted by the Chanukah Zombie in Futurama: Bender’s Big Score. The TIE Fighter is obviously from Star Wars, which is fitting because the Chanukah Zombie is voiced by Mark Hamill.

Maker Jeff Tanko is behind this clever little project. He tells us that he created the model in SolidWorks in just an afternoon, trying to stay as faithful to the source material as possible. This is something we think he accomplished, especially when you compare the final product to a screenshot from the movie.

Printing at a 0.12 millimetre layer height took around eight hours with the model being designed so that it could be printed without supports.

At three inches (7.62 centimetres) wide Tanko tells us that he wanted to print it at a larger scale, but decided against it so it could easily be hung up for decoration.

Testors model paint was used for the colour here but some smart filament choice saved on the amount needed – the main body was done in grey and the wings in black.

If you’d like to make your own version of this project, you can find the files to do so available for free over on Thingiverse.  The STLs are available in two configurations: split right down the middle for a quick print, or with the wings separate from the body.

If you need more Futurama prints to round off the year, make sure to check out our roundup of fifteen characters from the show, all printed as custom miniatures.
