Eastern Free State launches new Thabo Mofutsanyana skills project

Earlier this week the deputy minister of Higher Education, Buti Manamela, headed to the Eastern Free State region to launch the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality Project.

This project aims to benefit over 3 000 students and increase skill set shortages, as well as educate people in the province by equipping them with a recognised qualification in terms of the National Qualification Frameworks (NQF).

“Manamela will launch the Thabo Mofutsanyana District which aims to address the skills shortage, unemployment and poverty within the district and its local municipalities,” said William Sono, the departmental media liaison officer.

This project dates back to 2016 and is a collaboration between the municipality and the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA). The aim is to promote artisanal trades as a viable form of education and employment for youth in the province.

Learners will receive training in the following areas – plumbing, electrical, carpentry, tiling, bricklaying, painting, building and civil construction, supervision of construction process, health and safety and construction contracting.
