“123456” is still the worst password of 2018

The lists for 2018 continue to roll on, and this latest one is rather puzzling.

As they have done for the past few years, SplashData has listed the 100 worst passwords of 2018, and while there are some interesting additions, the number one spot goes to last year’s reigning champ.

That’s right, 123456 is still the worst password of 2018, making it five years in a row now.

For reference SplashData analysed more than 5 million passwords that were leaked onto the internet, and is it turns out, most of them are quite easy to guess.

The top 10 of worst passwords for 2018 is as follows:

  1. 123456
  2. password
  3. 123456789
  4. 12345678
  5. 12345
  6. 111111
  7. 1234567
  8. sunshine
  9. qwerty
  10. iloveyou

Some of the more curious passwords that have made it onto the top 100 include Liverpool at 94 (quite disconcerting given I’m a Liverpool fan), along with starwars at 60 and donald at 23.

As SplashData always like to point out, it releases this list in the hopes that people are more vigilant in the passwords they use, especially as cybercrime is at an all-time high.

You can head here to view the entire list, or simply enjoy the video pasted below.
