Hellboy commits the mortal sin of saying “LEGOS” instead of “LEGO”

After a few teases we finally have our first look at David Harbour’s Hellboy in an initial trailer and, well, it’s not looking very good.

Before we get into the meat of the trailer we have to address a piece of dialogue. At about a minute into the video (embedded below) Hellboy makes the unforgivable mistake of pluralising the word LEGO.

Anyway, on to more important things and Hellboy looks like he’s been hitting hard drugs most of his life. We know this character is half demon but man, why did they have to make him so ugly?

Okay, nitpicks aside the trailer has a lot of other problems. The tone is all over the place with jokes that don’t hit (the humour in the comics is more deadpan) and it looks like an uninteresting piece of schlock – and we’re not just saying that because of Resident Evil flashbacks after seeing Milla Jovovich.

On the plus side it looks like we’re going to be getting a lot of the more bombastic elements from the source material with some interesting monster designs and sets, but we’re not convinced by this first trailer.

With a 12th April 2019 release date there’s some time for new trailers to come out and shed a better light on this film, and maybe even for the movie itself to be altered a bit should people get a bit too vocal.

Oh well. At least we get that sweet Monster Energy product shot in the British chippy.
