How to get your 2018 Matric exam results

The long wait is over for every 2018 matriculant who wants to know their fate on how they performed the 2018  exams which ended last year on 23rd November.

On the evening of the 3rd of January 2019, the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, will announce the national results in a live broadcast on one of the South African Broadcasting Services (SABC) channels.

On the 4th of January 2019 the results will be released to the public excluding the Western Cape which will get their results on the 5th of January 2019.

The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) will release the private school matric results at Midnight on 3rd January 2019.

Where to we get your results?

IEB Website

For private school students your exam number and date of birth will be required to log in.

Newspaper

All of the country’s main newspapers will have results published on morning of  4th January 2019. Newspapers will not publish all of your exam results, but simply state if you’ve passed or not, and which symbol you have passed with, with B for Bachelor’s Pass, D for Diploma and Higher Certificate.

High School

Two days after the results are released, most high schools will have your statement of results. This is not a Matric Certificate, but rather a statement which will show how you did on each subject.

Smartphone

SABC Education and the Department of Education have an SMS service that will allow you to get your results on your smartphone. You need to register.

To register via SMS send your ID number and exam number to 35658. The SMS costs R1 and free SMSs don’t apply.

You can also use a USSD service by dialling *120*35658#, then enter your ID number and answer a few questions.

Finally you can call the Department of Education on 082 152. Remember that there might be traffic so it might take a while before anyone answers.
