Nvidia adds G-Sync support to (some) Freesync monitors

Folks that are looking for the best visual experience for PC gaming have – until now – had to choose between Nvidia’s G-Sync or AMD’s Freesync technology.

While both technologies are different they strive to accomplish the same thing. Essentially the tech matches your monitor’s frame rate to the frame rate of your GPU to eliminate tearing and get a smoother visual experience.

The trouble is that these two technologies have been exclusive to the respective firms – until today.

Nvidia has announced at CES 2019 that 12 Freesync monitors will get support for G-Sync. That number is rather small but Team Green says it tested 400 monitors and these 12 cut the mustard.

“We’ll continue to test monitors and update our support list. For gamers who have monitors that we have not yet tested, or that have failed validation, we’ll give you an option to manually enable VRR, too,” Nvidia said in a statement.

The following Freesync monitors that will support Freesync are:

  • Acer XFA240
  • Acer XG270HU
  • Acer XV273K
  • Acer XZ321Q
  • Agon AG241QG4
  • AOC G2590FX
  • Asus MG278Q
  • Asus VG258Q
  • Asus VG278Q
  • Asus XG248
  • Asus XG258
  • BenQ XL2740

The monitors listed above are set to receive a firmware update which will rollout in the next driver update from Nvidia. It’s expected this additional support for Freesync monitors will be rolled out from 15th January.

For anybody looking for a full list of G-Sync monitors (both Freesync and not) you can head to this handy list over on Nvidia’s website.

The firm also announced a new slew of monitors under the G-Sync Ultimate banner which feature support for HDR, overclocking and more.
