CES 2019 sees HP refresh OMEN 15 and OMEN Obelisk

The list of manufacturers debuting new computing hardware at CES 2019 continues to grow, with HP the latest to be added. HP revealed a slew of new offerings for their Pavilion consumer notebook lineup, as well as the OMEN gaming range.

The latter in particular has attracted our attention, with two refreshed devices already confirmed for arrival in South Africa within the next few months.

The gaming devices in question are the HP OMEN 15 and HP OMEN Obelisk.

As with previous HP OMEN 15 offerings, the 2019 model features a 15.6″ display that delivers a 1 920 X 1 080 (Full HD) resolution. In terms of the specifications, the OMEN 15 is sporting an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 (8750H) processor, with a pair of 8GB DDR4 RAM sticks, and choice of either 128 SDD or 1 TB SATA hard drive.

According to the official HP OMEN 15 datasheet though, the graphics card onboard is “under embargo,” but HP South Africa says it will be one of the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 20 series offerings. As such you’ll likely want to hold off and see what HP embeds within this 2019 model.

Moving onto the HP OMEN Obelisk, which is a desktop model within the company’s gaming range. For this year’s iteration HP is talking up the micro-ATX compatible upgradability of the Obelisk. Added to this is a chassis with customisable RGB lighting should the red accents that the OMEN range is known for not do it for you.

Looking deeper HP has opted for a 9th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU (9700K), which is paired with 16GB DDR4 RAM. Like the OMEN 15, there are two onboard storage options, with a 512 GB PCIe or 1TB SATA hard drive available.

The HP OMEN 15 is expected to land in South Africa in March this year, with pricing recommended to start at R32 999. As for the HP OMEN Obelisk, it will one month later in April for R16 999, but price will depend on model specification.
