Batmobile from Batman: The Animated Series rockets from screen to 3D print

Usually when we feature a Batman 3D print it takes the form of a wearable cowl or a 1:1 prop intended for cosplay, but today we have a scaled down Batmobile right from the cels of Batman: The Animated Series.

This project comes to us from Maker Neil Hengist who we featured last year when he created his own custom, 3D printed Transformer called TruckBot.

Like TruckBot the Batmobile was modelled in 123D Design in around 16 hours. Hengist tells us that the inspiration here was an official toy he had as a child that didn’t at all match what was seen on TV, so accuracy was paramount here.

Printing took about 20 hours to complete resulting in a model that is a rather large at 23 centimetres long, 6.5 centimetres wide and 4 centimetres tall.

The model is sliced by colour so no painting is required here as long as you have the right filament on hand (especially black). The individual pieces are made to slot together but some smaller parts – like the exhaust tips – may require some glue.

If you’d like to make your own Batmobile the files to do so are available for free from MyMiniFactory.

Two different types of wheels are available here. One set is designed to roll in conjunction with 608 bearings. Another set looks closer to the design in the show, but will not turn which is perfect if you don’t have the bearings on hand or you prefer this to purely be a display piece.
