The new Alienware m17 notebook will be available in SA from 1st February

Like several other manufacturers, Alienware showcased a range of new offerings at CES 2019 this week. Some appealed to the more season notebook gamer, like the crazy-looking Area 51m, while others appeal to those who want to work and game on the same device.

Case in point the Alienware m17, which is the company’s thinnest and lightest 17″ notebook to date, measuring 18.5mm thin and weighing 2.67kg.

Being an Alienware product the internal specifications are highly customisable with four different models on offer at the moment in the States. Looking at the base model, which costs $1 649.99 (R22 876).

On the processor front an 8th Gen Intel i7-8750H is taking care of things, with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 aiding it. Should that prove insufficient the GTX 1070 can be opted for instead, but it bumps up the price by $400.

As for memory, this base model has a relatively small 8GB of DDR4 RAM to call upon. There are upgradable options to 16GB or 32GB, but once again it will cost you. There is, however, a sizeable 1TB hydrid drive to take care of storage.

The display too, 17.3″, is customisable, with the base model featuring Full HD (1 920 X 1 080) visuals and 60Hz with a 72 percent colour gamut on offer.

So when will the Alienware m17 be available in South Africa? According to Dell (which owns Alienware), this latest offering will land locally on 1st February, but pricing is yet to be confirmed.

As such, you may want to hold off and see what the price is, and compare to some of the other gaming notebooks revealed at CES 2019 before opting for this Alienware device.
