After cracking an Instagram record, the picture of an egg aims for Twitter

In a mixture of silly internet happenings and a collective distaste for a certain celebrity family: the record for most likes on Instagram was recently snatched by a simple picture of an egg, beating out a post by Kylie Jenner which previously held the title.

Now it looks like this will be happening again, albeit on Twitter. The account @egg_rt_record is attempting to garner the most retweets this time around, as opposed to likes, and dammit it looks like it just might pull it off.

Hatched yesterday, the tweet (embedded below) has already amassed more than a half a million retweets and it’s picking up more every time the page is reloaded.

It’s aiming to beat Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa who is offering up a substantial cash prize in a tweet he posted earlier this month. That tweet is currently sitting at about ten times the reweets, with more than five million.

While it would make sense for the Instagram and Twitter egg accounts to be operated by the same person or group, that doesn’t seem to be the case. In the bio of @egg_rt_record it states that there’s no relation between the two.

If you think this is all a bit dumb, well, you’re right, but with the internet constantly filled with hate and abuse all of the time, it’s nice to get behind something silly once in a while.

If you have some spare time make sure you scroll through the replies to this on Twitter. Seeing the spam bots, Soundcloud rappers, K-pop fans, verified accounts and more argue about a picture of an egg is rather entertaining.
