Play with time and swords in Devolver Digital’s new title Katana Zero

After teasing the reveal of a new game, indie publisher Devolver Digital showed off Katana Zero recently as one of its upcoming titles.

This sidescroller features, as you may have guessed by the name, a lot of slashing your way through bad guys with an emphasis on time manipulation to redo mistakes. The official game description states that it features “instant death combat”, so it may be a case of taking one hit and your game ending right there, making the time mechanic important here.

Judging from the trailer, embedded below, it also features a retro aesthetic and several sections to break up the main gameplay. If you ever wanted to chop up bad guys as a ninja while driving a bike, this is the game for you.

Katana Zero is developed by Askiisoft who have created some smaller titles and Flash games you can play on their side (if you enable the software).

Looking at the Devolver Digital lineup and Katana Zero will be the third game to be released from them this year. First up is Pikuniku on 24th January, then Ape Out on 7th February followed by Katana Zero in March.

While the Steam page for this title is live for you to peruse and wishlist, the game will be coming to console though we’re not sure which right now.

If you happen to live close enough (or you’re willing to travel) you can play Katana Zero this weekend as it will be set up at PAX South.

Finally, going off just what we’ve seen from this trailer, we’re going to recommend everyone check out the game Intrusion 2 which came out back in 2012, because the gameplay here is reminding us a lot of this criminally underrated title.
