Sony’s retro-styled console, the PlayStation Classic, landed at local retailers in the early part of December last year. Our office was sitting on the fence when it came to this nostalgia-filled offering, not least of all because of the asking price.

If you too were put of by the R1 799 price tag, a local promotion for the PlayStation Classic kicked off today dropping the RRP to R1199.99.

The offer is available at selected local retailers, such as AWX, BT Games, Takealot, Raru and Makro to name a few, with the price cut offer ending on 3rd February.

Apart from the drop in cost, there is nothing else different from this version of the console compared to last year’s. As such the PlayStation Classic looks just like the original, only now coming in a body that’s 45 percent smaller. It also comes pre-loaded with 20 classic titles for the PlayStation, including Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Metal Gear Solid, Rayman and Resident Evil Director’s Cut.

Along with the PlayStation Classic console, those who opt for this retro package will also get two controllers, all styled in the pale grey colourway of the original.

Check in with your local gaming retailer to find out if they have stock and are running the same discounted promo.
