Google Maps finally adds speed limits to iOS and Android apps

Whether travelling locally or abroad, Google Maps is one of the handiest apps to have on your smartphone.

The wildly popular navigation tool is crammed full of extra features that Google has worked on, but for some apparent reason has not adding speed limits to the app. Google had tested the feature out since 2016, and only made it available in San Francisco and Rio de Janeiro.

According to a discovery by Android Police, that’s going to change, with the website spotting a speed limits feature for some users in select regions of the United States.

Since being found, it’s reported that Google Maps has an impending update ready for rollout in the coming weeks, with the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Indonesia, Mexico and Russia. Sadly no Middle East or African countries are mentioned, but seeing how ubiquitous the app is here, we should be receiving it some time.

As for the feature itself, users of both the iOS and Android version of the Google Maps app, will see their speed limit appear on their screen while driving to a specific location, along with an icon that adds the ability to see where speed cameras are located along one’s route.
