Spotify is reportedly testing a feature that lets you block artists

Spotify does an excellent job of recommending new artists for you to listen to but sometimes you’ll hear an artist you might not want to.

That problem might not be an issue any longer as The Verge reports that Spotify is testing a feature that will let you block an artist on the streaming service.

The feature was spotted on the iOS version of the app and lets you block an artist outright. This means that you won’t hear music from the artist in playlists, charts or on Spotify Radio stations.

The Verge notes that the block feature does not work for tracks the blocked artist features on.

It appears as if the decision to add a blocking feature to the platform was prompted by a documentary about R. Kelly which details accusations of 25 years of sexual violence and abuse.

Users will have to block artists on their own rather than the service banning artists from the platform outright. You will also be able to unblock an artist.

Whether this feature will be rolled out to all Spotify users remains to be seen but I for one welcome the ability to scrub certain artists from my ears.
