LG’s MWC 19 teaser vid points to phones with touchless gesture control

We’re a little over one month away from MWC 19 getting underway, which means it’s time for smartphone makers to start drumming up interest in their upcoming devices.

One of the companies aiming to make an impression is LG, with a new teaser video appearing online from the South Korean firm.

The video is relatively short and cryptic, with a hand waving over the words “Goodbye Touch.”

Reading between the lines, we think LG may be working on some sort of touchless gesture controls for its upcoming phones. It’s unclear if this will be similar to the function added to Samsung’s Galaxy S4 a few years ago, which was a hit and miss sort of interface.

If LG is indeed adding touchless gestures, hopefully they’ll be able to refine the experience.

With the company going up against some stiff competition from the likes of Samsung, Huawei, Sony and Nokia (HMD Global), they’ll need to add more than the touchless controls in order to win over MWC 19 attendees.

Speaking of which, LG’s MWC 19 Premiere event is scheduled for Day Zero of the congress – 24th February. No specific time has been mentioned yet, but if we’re going by previous years, LG should be one of the first to showcase their wares on the day.

This likely won’t be the last crumb that LG drops ahead of MWC 19, so more information and teasers should be landing in coming weeks.
