The lead up to the 2019 Oscars has not been the smoothest, with the issue of who will host being one of the major storylines, but now focus turns to the nominees for this year’s Academy Awards.

One of the big talking points for this year’s nominations is Black Panther, which proved to be a smash hit for audiences and critics alike. So much so that Black Panther is the first superhero film to be nominated for the Best Picture category.

Black Panther garnered seven nominations in all, and even if it does not win come 24th February, its inclusion does mark a change for the awards show. Moving forward the Oscars will be adding a category for “Entertaining” films, which means we could see more superhero or summer blockbusters feature at the Oscars in future.
