Unisa extends registration deadline to 31st January 2019

Early last week we reported that the University of South Africa (Unisa) was at full capacity and could not enrol new applicants due to space limitations. There is still hope for prospective students who want to study at Unisa, however, as the institution has extended its registration deadline for all undergraduate programmes to 31st January 2019.

“We are now processing all those new applications, and we have now extended the deadline to Thursday 31st January. What is going to happen between now and then is that offers will be made to students within the context of the space available,” said Unisa spokesperson Martin Ramotshela to News24.

The institution says it had initially targeted 380 000 enrolments, but has received more than 500 000 applications for the 2019 academic year. Unisa says it will continue making offers, based on the availability of space, to thousands of hopeful students.

“We will make offers as we process the applications. In fact, we are very close to the number. We make offers as we process the applications and when we reach the target, we close. No one is on the waiting list, you are just an applicant,” added Ramotshela.

Ramotshela also urged students to register as soon as possible, and that they should remember that the academic year, including submissions of assignments and examinations, will not change.
