Quantic Dream might expand development to other platforms thanks to NetEase

One of our favourite games from 2018 was Detroit: Become Human but like most Quantic Dream titles it was tied exclusively to the PlayStation.

That might be set to change as the developer accepted investment from Chinese firm NetEase.

That sound you just heard was the collective groan of the internet remembering that NetEase is the name behind a mountain of mobile games.

With that having been said, NetEase also helped Blizzard and other developers localise games for the Chinese market.

The investment will, according to Quantic Dream, help it expand its development to other platforms which is fantastic news.

Quantic Dream will continue to operate independently according to a report by Ars Technica and it doesn’t appear as if NetEase will have a hand in the game development side of things.

This is backed up by an interview Quantic co-founder David Cage had with VentureBeat.

“We’re very excited to report that NetEase has taken a minority share in the capital of Quantic Dream,” said Cage. “This investment will allow us to invest in future technologies and games in order to prepare for the next generation of platforms, with the same ambition regarding creativity and innovation.”

So perhaps we’ll be seeing the next Quantic Dream game on a variety of platforms rather than just one which is great news because the more folks that get to experience games like Detroit, the better.
