Microsoft working on Xbox Live gaming for iOS, Android and Switch

There could an important announcement on the way from Microsoft, which should be of interest for Xbox Live users.

According to some session notes discovered ahead of the Game Developer’s Conference (GDC), happening in San Francisco, California next month, Microsoft will announce that it will be adding cross-platform functionality to Xbox Live.

More specifically a developer kit will be unveiled that will help integrate the online service for iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch gamers. This integration would also extend further than the current chat functionality available to some platforms, and adds the ability to save achievements, access your clubs and dive into friends lists while you’re away from your console.

If true such a feature would be great for Xbox Live gamers who don’t want to use a Microsoft-powered device when wanting to gain access to their account on the go.

While the developer kit is reportedly set to be revealed, Windows Central notes that titles supported by this new feature are still some ways off from being available.

Yes, a few games being announced alongside the devkit would be nice, but even if that does not happen, this latest development shows Microsoft’s new strategy to embrace mobile.

Add to that their plan to have a streaming-only console, as well as its own streaming service, and Microsoft could make some serious waves on the gaming front in coming years.
