SA ranked 5th for the most Instagrammable country in the world

South Africa has earned the fifth spot in the world’s most Instagrammable places, according to the Tourism Authority of South Africa.

With Instagram one of the social media platforms where beautiful imagery thrives, it is only natural to see South Africa’s landscape prove so covetable on the app.

The reason for South Africa’s recent rise to fifth spot is thanks to the Northern Cape, which is receiving more tourist attraction than ever before. In particular the Augrabies Waterfall is garnering a lot of social media attention, with it already a famous location for tourists. Now the Namaqualand and the Kalahari two new places that are receive top likes on social media.

“People, they love social media. It is actually where they live nowadays. So the fact that people are sharing on Instagram and on other social platforms shows that more and more young people are becoming interested in the calmness and the beauty of nature and really that’s a benefit to us,” said Augrabies Park manager, Frans van Rooyen, to SABC News.

“We are over the moon and we love to have everybody come and visit us and see what is about,” added Sanparks speaker, Genevieve Maasdorp.

Tourism authorities are excited by the recent development and have urged people to take a shot-left and post their memories online.
