3D Print turns a small Nerf gun into the Halo 5 railgun

Back in 2017 the M41 SPNKR rocket launcher from Halo was 3D printed with a Nerf gun hidden inside to make it into a prop that could shoot, and we’ve seen the same tactic applied here to the railgun as seen in Halo 5: Guardians.

The maker behind this is MyMiniFactory user T-E-C who we featured recently for his Iron Man helmet based on the damaged version from the initial Avengers: Endgame trailer.

Like the helmet, this railgun was also designed in Fusion 360, a process which only took around three hours to complete.

Printing took a bit longer at two full days, which is to be expected considering that the assembled proper measures in at a meter long.

The printed pieces were glued together with pegs helping connected things together properly.

Rust-Oleum automotive filler primer was then applied followed by a base coat of brown, Masking off the parts which would remain this colour, the rest of the print was sprayed with a silver colour.

The grip and firing mechanism is an unmodified Nerf Firestrike. We’ve been told that making sure this fit into the print was the biggest challenge of the whole project. The print on its own still looks great, but you will need one of these to complete the project, unless you have the skill to model in the missing parts.

After some weathering effects were added with Rub N’ Buff and the project was done, the results of which you can see in the gallery below.

Those looking to make their own should start with the free files on MyMiniFactory, followed by the short guide.

If this just isn’t the railgun for you, we also looked at the one from Grand Theft Auto V, also back in 2017.
