WeWork opening first South African location in Johannesburg later this year

If working from home isn’t cutting it, there could be an upcoming office space that may interest you.

WeWork, which specialises in creative office spaces for different types of needs and jobs, is bringing their operation to South Africa, and opening up their first location in Johannesburg.

The new space is expected to open sometime in Q3 this year, but no official date been detailed just yet. The location is known, however, with 173 Oxford Road in the city centre being earmarked.

“We’re so proud to announce our expansion to South Africa. Expanding here is an obvious choice for us: it’s our first location in Africa and, with its global outlook, South Africa is the gateway to the rest of the continent, so we’re excited to welcome new members and grow our community here,” explained Eugen Miropolski, MD of WeWork International.

“Johannesburg is home to a huge number of innovative and established businesses as well as entrepreneurs and start-ups, and we’re looking forward to learning from those who join our community of 400 000 members across 400 locations around the world,” he added.

Pricing for the different WeWork offerings is still in the offing, but the firm has said that the new location will cater to a number of needs, such as internet access, cleaning services and fully furnished spaces.

There will also be different tiers of membership that offer specific types of space setups. These include hot desks, as well as private and noise-controlled offices.

With the remote working now being embraced more by organisations, along with office spaces looking far less cubicle-esque these days, we can certainly see a concept like WeWork doing well in SA.
