Specs Comparison: Huawei P Smart 2019 vs. Huawei Mate 20 Lite

In August last year, Huawei announced the release of the Huawei Mate 20 Lite, and it was available in South Africa in September. Then a couple of weeks ago the company introduced the release of its Huawei P Smart 2019, which was released earlier this month.

We will be comparing the two smartphones, both of which are aimed at the mid-range market, using four main aspects in particular – display, processor, camera and battery.

Display

When it comes to display, both these phones are sporting screens north of six inches. The Huawei Mate 20 Lite having the largest with 6.3″, while Huawei P Smart 2019 only slightly smaller at 6.21″.

The Mate 20 Lite comes with a rectangular notch while the P Smart packs the tear drop notch, when it comes to looks, the P Smart does look very trendy compared to the Mate 20 Lite.

When it comes to resolution both phones have 2 340 X 1 080 pixels, so they’re on par when it comes to visual quality.

Processor

When it comes to performance, the Mate 20 lite is a better performer scoring 136 293 when tested on Antutu, while the P Smart scored a solid 129 303. This difference in scores is due to the fact that the Mate 20 Lite has 4GB RAM, while the P Smart has a 3GB RAM.

Having used both phones, the Mate 20 Lite performs slightly faster when switching between apps and multitasking, but the P Smart is no slouch either.

Camera

Now looking at the main camera setups on both phones each has dual camera functionality on the rear. The P Smart has two main lenses with a 13MP primary shooter and 2MP depth sensor, while the Mate 20 Lite has also two main cameras with 20MP and 2MP depth sensor.

When it comes to camera performance the Mate 20 Lite takes the edge here, particularly as Huawei has imbued it with more AI functionality. This means that object and scene detection is better, and the all-round photo taking capabilities of the Lite simply offers a bit more.

Battery

When it comes to battery life the  Mate 20 Lite has a 3 750mAh Li-ion non-removable battery compared to the P Smart which  has a smaller 3 400mAh option.

The Mate 20 Lite takes about an hour to charge to 80 percent, while the P Smart takes one hour and 30 minutes to fully charge. Both can manage a full day without need to charge, but like most of the other aspects compared here, the Mate 20 Lite takes the slight edge.
