Tshimologong Precinct to host blockchain incubation programme

Wits University’s Tshimologong Precinct in Braamfontein has announced that it will play host to a blockchain incubation programme thanks to a partnership with Conlog.

The programme is known as Reapele and it will be presented in seven phases with a view to turning ideas, products and businesses into something sustainable and successful.

The first phase of Reapele calls on aspiring software developer with experience in Java, JavaScript, C++, Python or C# to participate in a meetup event and an online assessment which will follow the meetup.

Junior devs which are selected for the incubation programme will be trained to use the core principles and foundations of blockchain technology.

“Disruptive design thinking and innovation are forged into our spirit which has enabled us to retain our position of leadership in the industry, whilst remaining relevant to the market. We are extremely motivated by the formation of the Reapele programme and look forward to working with Tshimologong Precinct to develop tomorrow’s future Blockchain experts,” head of engineering at Conlog, Lance Hawkins-Dady said in a statement.

Following training, the junior devs will take part in a three day hackathon where their skills will be tested. The hackathon will also host developers with three-years experience using the aforementioned languages. There is also R20 000 up for grabs for the top team at the hackathon.

The final goal of Reapele is to find 8 – 10 junior software developers with a viable idea that utilises blockchain tech, incubate those developers and let them develop their idea before presenting a valid, tested business model.

“Reapele will assist in developing much needed skills while also encouraging a startup mindset for software developers,” says Hawkins-Dady.

So how do you sign up to take part in this incubator? Head to the Tshimologong website, read through the fine print and sign up, it’s that easy.
