Unisa May/June exams moved due to elections

Unisa students writing exams in the May / June period of this year may find that the dates of their papers have been moved to accommodate the national general elections.

This has not been done to give students more time to vote, but rather because the exam venues are to be used as polling stations during this time.

“During his State of the Nation Address on 7 February 2019, the President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, announced that national general elections will take place on 8 May 2019,” A statement reads, “Since a number of examination venues will be used as polling stations during the period 6 to 10 May 2019, Unisa has had to revise the May/June 2019 examination timetable.”

We’re not entirely sure why Unisa had not booked these venues in advance, but maybe the elections take precedent at these venues over any other event.

Regardless, this is yet another inconvenience that students of Unisa will have to deal with, of which there are many.

Those looking for their new timetables can visit the dedicated tool, or log into myUnisa and look at the “Exam Timetable” menu under “My Admin”.

Closer to the time of the exams every registered student writing in this semester should receive an email with the final timetable, sent to their mylife.unisa.ac.za address. It’s best to check this regularly in the case of other changes.

Those who do not receive one of these emails can contact exams@unisa.ac.za. This is one of the rare addresses that the university actually monitors and will reply with, but we again recommend waiting for a time closer to the exams.

Some students may find that their exams have not been moved but, as the statement announcing these changes is so brief and lacking in details, we can’t say for sure.
