University of Fort Hare SRC divided over NSFAS payment process

Students at the University of Fort Hare have rejected the institution’s involvement of IntelliMali, which is said to distribute National Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowances to students.

According to Dispatch Live, university management as well as the Student Representative Committee (SRC), had a meeting at the Alice campus over the past weekend to discuss the IntelliMali issue, after protests erupted late last week.

“We remain by the resolution we took during our previous mass meeting that we don’t want IntelliMali, we still say that, we don’t want IntelliMali,” said an unnamed student.

The students said that if Walter Sisulu University students were able to get their allowances straight to their bank accounts, what was stopping the University of Fort Hare from doing the same.

They also dismissed the university’s statement that the reason it involved IntelliMali was because it insufficient capacity to administer the process.
