Gauteng’s infrastructure project will see 43 schools being built in the province

The Gauteng Department of Education is trying their best to improve the infrastructure of schools in the province, as it said it would unveil new schools every week until the end of March.

By then the Department expects to have unveiled 43 new schools.

“The Department undertook the massive school infrastructure programme to address the demand for new spaces and rehabilitation of existing school infrastructure,” the Department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, told Times Live.

According to the online publication, this project began during the 2014/2015 financial year, with the main focus on developing schools with facilities such as sports grounds, labs and learning equipment, along with also prioritised the eradication of pit latrine toilets in the province.

The Department said that an amount of R120 000 a year would be allocated to each school with a capacity of 1000 pupils. It did not stipulate how many years it would do this, however.
