The Rand Show will host a Fortnite tournie and cosplay contest

The Rand Show or as some of you might remember it, The Rand Easter Show, is now in its 125th year and it could do with a bit of modernisation.

The organisers of the expo seem to agree and have announced that for the first time the expo will play host to a Gaming Entertainment Pavilion.

At said Pavilion there will be a Fortnite tournament with a R100 000 prize pool and “other prizes”. To enter the tournament you’ll need to head to this link to register on 25th February.

Between that date and 31st March, online qualifiers will take place. However, the Rand Show has said that visitors at the expo can also sign up to take part in the tournament.

While we know many youngsters enjoy Fortnite, there is an age restriction in place and participants will need to be 13 years or older. Any participants under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will need to sign a parental guidance form.

Then, the Rand Show is diving into cosplay with reckless abandon and we love it.

During the first weekend of the show there will be a Cosplay Masquerade which is being billed as a “relaxed approach to cosplay”. Daily prizes are on offer but this contest is really to encourage beginners to emulate their fictional (or real life) heroes.

Then on the second of the expo things ramp up dramatically.

The Newcomer category will take place on weekend two of the Rand Show and is open to newcomers, casual cosplayers and kids/teens (ages 6 – 12 and 13 – 15). Past competition cosplays welcome. First, second and third place will be awarded to the various age groups.

The Like a Boss category is an intermediate competition. It will take place on Weekend two of the Rand Show. It is open to all, except experienced cosplayers. Beginners are welcome to enter as well. Pre-Judging and skit judging will take place. Past competition cosplays welcome. First, second and third place will be awarded.

The Beast Mode category is an experienced competition and is only open to experienced cosplayers. It will take place on Weekend two. Pre-Judging and skit judging will take place. Past competition cosplays welcome.

Entries for these competitions will open on 25th February at this link.

Finally, there will be a “Fortnite inspired Dance Competition”. To enter you’ll need to upload a 15 second video of yourself performing your favourite Fortnite inspired dance moves on Facebook or Instagram using the tags #RSDanceOff and #randshow2019.

The Gaming Entertainment Pavilion will be open from 14:00 to 19:00 on weekdays during the Rand Show and 10:00 to 19:00 on weekends.

Entrance to the Rand Show is R150 with entrance to the Gaming Entertainment Pavilion costing an additional R20. Early bird tickets for the show cost R100 and include entrance to the Gaming Entertainment Pavilion.
